Chellarams Supports Community Bicycle Project – Business Day

Chellarams Plc, the largest manufacturer of bicycles in Nigeria has partnered with 1004 Estates in community bicycle scheme. This partnership according to Chellarams, will function in conjunction with 1004 Estate community activity “Play at 1004” airned at providing recreational and entertainment services to its residents. The project which is an initiative of Chellarams plc free rental of the 20 bicycles provided for use, within a 12 km radius of the estate.

Bicycles, serviced and maintained by Chellarams Plc will be evenly distributes across the four clusters of the estate and can be rented by residents for a 2 hour period.

Speaking at the launch of the community  bicycles project, the group chief information officer of Chellarams, Harbahjan Batth, said the projects is in line with the company’s policy of giving back to the society in the form of corporate social responsibility. According to him, the project is a pilot scheme, and would soon be extended to other estates within Lagos in order to promote the culture of riding bicycles amongst Nigerian.

He explained: “1004 estate was hosen for this pilot scheme for the following reasons: because of the well organized structure of the of the estate; majority of residents live a very busy life with little time for recreation; Residents are renowed to be health conscious; management of the estate has always expressed its keenness to help residents relax and unwind.”

Speaking further, he listed the objectives of the project as including the promotion of healthy life styles among residents, protecting the ecosystem by reducing carbon molecules, encouraging members of the estate to interact with one another and to support the gogreen Lagos; project of the Lagos state government.
