This years’ body building competition, ‘Mr. Hex Nigeria has come and gone but would not have been complete without the mention of Chellarams Real milk brand. This was apparent in the fact that the name of the milk was on everybody lips throughout the event.

The event which took place in Lagos, featured 14 body builders competing for the star prize of a power bike and other mouth watering prizes. Speaking at the event, the group chief information officer of Chellarams Plc Har bahjan Batth stated that Chellarams decided to support ‘Mr Flex Nigeria’ through its real Milk brand, because Real milk contains a lot of nutrients that are vital for body building. lie encouraged the contestants to always take Real milk as part of their breakfast, because it is rich in calcium.

According to Batth, a serving cup (250m1) of Real milk contains 285mg of calcium, which represents 22 to 29 per cent of daily recommended intake for an adult. Calcium, he emphasised is important for the body builders because it is essential for strong bones required by them.

Speaking further, Batth postulated that vitamin B12 and riboflavin which can only be gotten from animal products such as Real milk are necessary for the cardiovascular health and energy production of the body builders. Real milk also contains biotin and panothenic acids, which are B vitamins essential for energy production. Other nutrients present in Real milk nc1ude folic acid, iron, protein lactose, potassium to mention but a few. The slogan at the event is that if you want to drink and drive, then drink milk.

At the end of the competition, Barth handed over the power bike to the winner, Tony Umeh; who was crowned Mr. FIex Nigeria 2011.

Chellarams Supports Community Bicycle Project – Business Day

Chellarams Plc, the largest manufacturer of bicycles in Nigeria has partnered with 1004 Estates in community bicycle scheme. This partnership according to Chellarams, will function in conjunction with 1004 Estate community activity “Play at 1004” airned at providing recreational and entertainment services to its residents. The project which is an initiative of Chellarams plc free rental of the 20 bicycles provided for use, within a 12 km radius of the estate.

Bicycles, serviced and maintained by Chellarams Plc will be evenly distributes across the four clusters of the estate and can be rented by residents for a 2 hour period.

Speaking at the launch of the community  bicycles project, the group chief information officer of Chellarams, Harbahjan Batth, said the projects is in line with the company’s policy of giving back to the society in the form of corporate social responsibility. According to him, the project is a pilot scheme, and would soon be extended to other estates within Lagos in order to promote the culture of riding bicycles amongst Nigerian.

He explained: “1004 estate was hosen for this pilot scheme for the following reasons: because of the well organized structure of the of the estate; majority of residents live a very busy life with little time for recreation; Residents are renowed to be health conscious; management of the estate has always expressed its keenness to help residents relax and unwind.”

Speaking further, he listed the objectives of the project as including the promotion of healthy life styles among residents, protecting the ecosystem by reducing carbon molecules, encouraging members of the estate to interact with one another and to support the gogreen Lagos; project of the Lagos state government.

Chellarams plc, one of the countries food packing companies has been awarded the ISO 9001: 2008 certifications for its food and chemical divisions, following adoption of a quality management system, as required by international organization of standardization.

Presenting the certification to Chellarams Joseph Odumodu, director-general of the Standard Organizational of Nigeria (SON)congratulated the management and staff of the company for achieving the feat of the ISO certification of their food and chemical divisions at the first attempt as well as the adoption of a quality management system as required by the International Organization of Standardization

Odumode who was represented by Solomon Onafowokan, director in the organization, however urged the company to ensure that it does not deviate form the quality management process that has been put in place and which led to the award of the ISO certification.

He noted that Chellarams was in the league of companies that have improved on their quality game, by upgrading from SOON MANCAP certification to the internationally recognized ISO 9001: 2008 certification.

Solomon Onafowokan, chairman of the company, receiving the award, assured SON that the company’s determination to improve on the standard gave  it the ISO certification. For him, the award would serve as the impetus that would steer the company towards providing more quality products and services to its customers.

In a bid to re-awaken  cycling Nigerians Chellarams Plc has collaborated with ?Y-Media Global Brands Communication Limited to sage this year’s Y-Media Park N Ride charity bicycle ride in Lagos. The 15-kilometre event, which held recently in the Ikeja axis of the state, saw over 200 participants, including children and adults, riding from Alausa through Alln Avenue, Opebi Kudirat Abiola  and Ikosi Roads before terminating at the take-off point in Alausa.

Speaking at event, the Group Information Officer, Chellarams Plc, Dr. Harbahjah Batth, pledged his company’s continued support, nothing that his firm has been part of the cycling fiesta since 2010 when it debuted and had committed over 2 million both in cash N2 million both in cash and material to its successful hosting in the past three years.

The standards organization of Nigeria (SON) has awarded Chellarams Plc the NISD ISO 9001:2008 Management System certification.

With the new development the food and chemical divisions of the group have now been internationally certified. Presenting the certificate to the company’s Chairman, Asiwaju Solomon Onafowokan, in Lagos at the weekend, Son’s Director General, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, who lauded the firm for the feat of bagging the award at the first attempt, tasked it on sustaining the quality which the brand had been identified, nothing that quality which the brand had been identified noting that quality is a moving target. Represented by the organization’s Executive Director, Laboratory Services, Mr. Louis Njoku, Odumodu reminded  the company that the award  was not a fait accomplish as it is subjected to six-month audits to ensure compliance with provisions of the certification, warnings that it could be withdrawn in the face of  intractable infractions and non-conformities.

He said: The relevance of quality management in the current competitive market environment cannot be overemphasized. The NIS ISO9001: 2008 Quality Management System approach provides a globally recognized and acceptable solution to the challenges associated with quality management.

The system has been placed on six monthly surveillance audit to ensure continuing suitability and effectiveness of the implementation of the quality management system. In the cause f the audit exercises, where non-conformities are observed and effectively corrected within specified time frame, the system will retain the certificate. However, the certificate. However, the certificate will be withdrawn if the structures in the place for certifications break down and necessary actions are not taken on observed non-conformances, Odomodu cautioned.

Chellarams in its usual responsive and collaborative approach towards ameliorating the problems and challenges faced by the less privileged in the society recently supported the seeing is believing fund raising walk organized by the Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited with a seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira donation to the course of the visually impaired in Nigeria.

Speaking at this years event that took place in Lagos, on Saturday the 13th of October 2012, the group chief information officer of Chellarams Plc, Harbbahjan bath, emphasized the commitment of Chellarams to the annual walk for the blind fund raising project. With the unveiling of its latest product the group, which is fast becoming a one-stop shop for diary products, has equally avowed commitment for quality and real value for any products coming under its stable.

Speaking at the product’s launch in Lagos recently, the group’s Chief Information Officer, Dr. Harbhajan Batth said the move was aimed at satisfying the needs of consumers in Nigeria, as well as fulfilling the company’s vision of making available its products and services in every home in Nigeria and beyond.

He expressed the determination of the group to make the new diary product a household name and encouraged Nigerian to consume butter oil is a good source of milk, specially for lactose intolerant people and pregnant women. Butter oil stimulates the secretion of stomach acids to help with digestion and in the maintenance and repairs of the mucus lining of the stomach. In addition to its nutritional value, it is rich in antioxidants and helps in absorption of vitamins and minerals from other foods.

Furthermore, butter oil is known to promote all three aspects of mental function learning, memory and recall.

He continued, butter oil has a longer shelf life and does not need to be stored under refrigerated condition.

Butter oil or Ghee as it is known in India, is not common in Nigeria, although a form of it known as Mai Shanu could be found in the northern part of the country, However butter oil is a class of clarified butter that originated from South Asia.

The launched product is packed in plain transparent 500 grammes vacuum bags. Other dairy products marketed by Chellarams include Oldburger milk powder, Oldburger UHT milk and Oldburger cheese. The rest are Real milk powder. Real butter, Real cheese and the newly introduced Regal filled milk powder.
